A well spent $29.00

A well spent $29.00

If you cut as sloppy as I do, it is always nice to have a good set of paring/gouging/shaving chisels. I wanted a set butt chisels even back when I was strictly using machinery for woodworking. Butt chisels are really nice for using one handed. I have known about these WoodRiver chisels for a while, but never bothered with them due to alot of negative reviews. I stopped by my local WoodCraft yesterday looking for a piece of Beechwood for a mallet head that I want to make. I happened to see th...

Powermatics PM 2800 the ultimate Drill Press for the modern WoodWork Shop.

Powermatics PM 2800 the ultimate Drill Press for the modern WoodWork Shop.

The beautiful, big black Powermatic 2800 Onyx variable speed 18” Drill press arrived well crated with sturdy wooden skids, a wood frame and heavy corrugated cardboard protecting all sides The crate was quite heavy, about 302 Lbs. so I recruited a helper to assist with the unpacking and assembly. We carefully unpackaged and inventoried all the component parts and hardware before proceeding with the assembly. The entire process took about 45 minutes including taking photographs while following ...

No Slowing Down

No Slowing Down

I researched several skill saws before buying this one. I wanted a saw that was reliable and square…period. This is what I decided on. It has been a good saw. I mostly cut old barn wood for rustic table work. So I don’t know what I’ll be cutting many times, age, condition, dry, wet, etc. I do clean up the nails well and remove first. This Milwauee Saw really does cut all the way through the cut smoothly with no bogging down at all. I use my speed square during most cuts f...

Great workhorse Compressor

Great workhorse Compressor

22 days ago by Martyroc | 2 comments »

After 15 years with my Craftsman 3 Gallon 125 PSI compressor, the brushes finally went. I looked about replacing the brushes which cost 1/2 the price of a new unit, since I have had many years of good service from this unit, I entertained the idea of buying new brushes. That was months ago and still no compressor, (WHAT?!?, Ive been busy!). This all changed when I needed to replace the brake pads on my van, it had been so long that I had taken the tires off with a crossbar, I forgot how much ...

UltraDeck Composite Decking material

UltraDeck Composite Decking material

23 days ago by richgreer | 5 comments »

I just completed building a deck that featured the UltraDeck composite decking material. This was my first experience with any composite decking material. In many regards, I was impressed. This is a solid, straight and true decking material. They claim it is maintenance free and I believe them. The hidden screw system works reasonably well and, once you figure it out, installation goes well. The second picture shows a close-up of the grooves in the sides of the boards. A T-s...

Poor Communication

Poor Communication

23 days ago by Bertha | 25 comments »

I ordered two woodscrews and two garters on April 3, 2012 for $320.00. I sent a total of 8 messages to check on the status of my order. I said, “I’m not asking for the World, just a bit of communication” (both on the site form and via e-mail). Without a single word, my payment was refunded on April 25, 2012. The credit hasn’t posted yet but I have every reason to believe it will. The right thing to do would have been to simply tell me he couldn’t fill the order. ...

Billy's Little Bench Review: Knew Concepts Woodworker Fret Saw

Billy's Little Bench Review: Knew Concepts Woodworker Fret Saw

24 days ago by Bill Schenher III | 19 comments »

To view the original article with pictures and video please visit www.billyslittlebench.com While making my tool chest this week I had a major tool malfunction. My coping saw decided to explode on me. The handle fell off, I epoxied it back on, it fell off again, and I ended up finishing one set of tails by just using the frame of the saw. As soon as I finished that last set of tails I came inside, sat down at the computer, and purchase a Knew Concepts Woodworker Fret Saw. Yes, I know, ...

Nearly everything you could ask for in a scroll saw

Nearly everything you could ask for in a scroll saw

24 days ago by wbrisett | 5 comments »

I have a shop full of tools; bandsaw, planer, joiner, table saw, drill press, and scroll saw. One of the things I’ve loved doing over the past eight years or so is making things on the scroll saw. After initially buying a Craftsman scroll saw and putting it to use, I saw a need for a better saw. I found a great deal on a used PS Wood 21-in scroll saw that I used for the past seven years. However, recently I was making some gifts that required me to do some very delicate fret-type work. ...

Cheap and does what I need it to do

Cheap and does what I need it to do

24 days ago by Joe | 9 comments »

I picked this up at Home Depot a few weeks ago. Unfortunately I only have a benchtop table saw. That means no cross cutting or ripping sheet goods. There is only 6” in front of the throat, and anything that small gets cross cut on my sliding miter saw. So why on earth would I buy a 40.00$ saw? Well, read below. I will say this has seen some fairly heavy use in the past few weeks. Here are my observations: 1 – The blade. This is a large reason why this saw got 3 stars. Out of t...
