Great saw without dropping the big $$$$

Great saw without dropping the big $$$$

6 days ago by gardentiger | 5 comments »

Bought this saw at traditionalwoodworker.com. Did a lot of research and they had the best price. After playing with old Disston saws for a few years this is a real eye opener. This saw seemed more rigid and cut lots better. I stayed out in the shop and cut a few more pieces of lumber just because I enjoyed it so much. Highly recommend.

Wynn Environmental Filters for the Jet AFS 1000B Filter system

Wynn Environmental Filters for the Jet AFS 1000B Filter system

8 days ago by bluejazz | 13 comments »

I recently purchased the Jet AFS 1000B. I was amazed at how quickly the filter was clogged up, thinking one the one hand this might get pretty expensive, but also thinking on the other hand, I am glad I didn’t breathe all that. I am very happy with this filtering system. I cannot quantify how well it cleans the air, but visibly pulls a lot of stuff out of the air. But this review is for the Wynn Environmental replacement outer filters. Replacement outer filters from Jet are upwar...

Should last longer than 35 days. Right?

Should last longer than 35 days. Right?

I loved the design of this sander! It is very light, handles are in perfect positions, BUT not impressed with the life of the one I bought. I used it only a few times and it started smoking. It seems to get hot quickly. I have not returned it yet, but I will be very soon. I know I didn’t apply to much pressure because I was just knocking a rough edge down on a 5” corner board. Anyone else have any luck with this sander? I would like to get another but kinda gun shy now̷...

easy and effective way to clean saw blades

easy and effective way to clean saw blades

10 days ago by ssnvet | 10 comments »

I’ve used the foamy stuff in the brown spray cans (see my second picture) both at home and at work and it’s horrible…. toxic smell, harsh on your skin, spatters, puts a caustic mist in the air, and supposedly eats away at the brazing that attaches the carbide tips to the saw blade. I used it a month ago to clean some burned router bits at work and a coworker accross the room started coughing and had to step outside to get some air. I also had some of it spatter into my mo...

Jet Cabinet Saw

Jet Cabinet Saw

I bought this table saw in March and I thought I would review it here as you have to do some digging to find reviews on this saw. The only other I found on this site was by Walnutz, a few months back. I have a blog with pics on the arrival condition and assembly on the saw so I won’t go into detail on that except to say that the saw arrived in absolutely perfect condition neatly on a pallet and shrink wrapped. This is my first true cabinet saw but in my research of and looking at the ma...

Great Hand Saw for a Great Price.

Great Hand Saw for a Great Price.

12 days ago by nobuckle | 4 comments »

Just a couple of days ago I purchased this “Pony” 15” Hand Saw and WOW what a saw. I recently embarked on a journey to learn how to use hand tools. This lead to the decision to attempt to do some resawing by hand. I started off using a Stanley 726 carpenter’s saw. That did not work out. Wrong kind of saw. So, while I was out the other day I stopped by my local Woodcraft and spoke with a salesman about what I was doing. He reccommended this hand saw. I’m glad he ...

Great for paint

Great for paint

Let me start out by saying that I am pretty new to spray finishes of any kind. I recently built some MDF shelves and got about half way through the first coat of primer on the first shelf when I remembered how much I hate painting. So I tried to get the wife to do it, then when I realized that wasn’t going to happen I set about finding a faster/easier method. I have an Earlex HVLP system, but from the 1 or 2 times I’ve tried to use it to spray paint I’ve found the proce...

A while ago I reviewed my Bosch Gas25 Workshop Vacuum. In a nutshell, it died prematurely. I took it to the powertool ER. Two days later their ‘Tech Guy’ (or should I say ‘Tech Buffoon’) pronounced it DoA – ‘yeah, it’s your control panel mate, uneconomical repair’. My review, as you can imagine, was not favourable. Then, by a twist of fate, like Lazarus – it returned to life. It seems it just needed a good rest. It happened lik...

Simple & Well Made

Simple & Well Made

I stopped by WoodCraft this morning to see what they had in stock for marking gauges. They had the Veritas dual marking gauge and the Cosman. Both were very well made and sold for the same price. I would have been happy with either one. I decided on the Cosman because the head/face has a nice flat area to prevent the tool from rolling off the bench. I got it home and marked about 10-12 lines along some red oak. I started at the 1/2” range all the way out to 5” in 1/2” incre...

I statred working with mesquite wood about a year ago and one of the first machines I brought was the Ridge R4512 because of the price and the looks. One year later I am still trying to sell it. If I can’t sell it I will try to see if I can replace the motor with a motor with more HP. The Ridge R4512 is a good saw if you cut pine or soft wook BUT…..... it can’t cut mesquite or hard wood. It has a lot of problems cutting the wood. I have a lot of trouble cutting my wood for m...
