Well Dec was a good month; Blondie gave the approval for me to buy more machines… LOL… I picked up the Delta 18/36 Drum Sander & now this Delta 18 drill press. This is the second drill press I’ve owned, but the first serious one. As you can see in one of the pictures, I had the 10” Craftsman drill press. It had a 2 1/8” quill travel and a 2/3 hp motor. Although it got small jobs done, it was never fun to use and I cursed it out every time I needed to. Obviously the Delta 18-900L is in a whole different class so any real comparison is moot. I have owned this drill press for about a year and everything was spot on right out of the box. The laser was perfectly aligned and I love the work light. The over sized table is great for woodworking especially as compared to the normal DP’s intended for metal working. It also appears to have plenty of power for my needs. Colt Maxi-Cut Forstner vs. Porter-Cable bit

The drill bits you see are 2” Porter Cable, and a 1 7/8” Colt Maxi Cut. I used the Porter cable last year and it worked OK, but the Colt was amazing. This might be an over the top review, but if you want to buy a great Forstner bit they can’t be beat. Cuts like butter through even some tough old oak branches with knots and all. The Porter cable did the job but took at least 10 times longer for the same result.

I added this Grizzly H7827 Drill Press Table to my Ridgid DP1550 drill press. Last year I a ryobi 12 in. drill press for $120 dollars. I have to say I am very happy with it and it has not let me down yet.
