1669 posts in 1236 days Location: Maine Back in the late 70's I attended the Maine School of Luthiery and learned to make guitars. It was a wonderful experience and I just loved the smell of the sitka spruce tops and the mahogany and rosewood. I made several instruments after that and sold them to college students. It was a meager but helpful income at the time. I was in college to become a science teacher. After graduation I got married, moved away from home, lived in rents, built a house, had kids.. you know the story. You've had similar. Anyway, the woodworking thing just wasn't a priority either financially or time wise. Jump to now. 30+ years later. I'm retired after 30 years in a Jr. High classroom. Ha, enough is enough! And I've fixed up the shop in the old family home by the lake and moved in. I haven't built a guitar yet but I have had fun with some furniture and learning new skills with the router. I've picked up some new tools and interestingly I've found that my old ones that have been in mothballs for 30 years, but with just 5 years of wear on them, are antiques. But, I know them. They are familiar to me. So, I've restored them and they feel as comfortable as they did years ago. I've also picked up some new ones and they are nice. I hope you look at my work, and I enjoy my sojourn here on LJ's. I'm trying to post my work and of course my teacher heritage might raise it's head now and again. Can't help that, it's in my blood. Oh, and Martin' Many thanks for this wonderful woodworking forum. I understand about the addiction comments of others now.
